      • Stephen Colbert: What's the thing that surprised you most? Do they love America or do they hate it? Because I hear a lot of chanting of "Death to America." That seems to be the number one hit over there.
Jared Cohen: Often times, when you hear people shouting "Death to American", they're paid $50 a day to do so.
Stephen Colbert: That's good money. I would shout it for much less. I wouldn't mean it of course.

      • Jared Cohen: Young people in America and young people in the Middle East are innately more or less similar. The difference is that there's a real lack of opportunities in the Middle East. And the people that are providing alternatives to those young people that are at risk and have nothing to do education wise and nothing to do recreationally are extremists, religious and political actors.

      • Jarod Cohen: We're in a war of ideas but this war of ideas is less a battle of ideologies and more a battle of alternatives.

      • Stephen Colbert: My understanding is, you go anywhere in the Middle East, you're dead. Right? Am I right about that?
Jared Cohen: Stephen, actually, that's not correct...Much to my surprise and the surprise of others, young people in the Middle East are actually not that different from us...us here in America...The Middle East is obviously this place of great uncertainty. But the big wild card in that part of the world is the 60% that are under the age of 30. They're the msot similar to us, the most impressionable, the most accessible, and they're more of a potential opportunity than they are a potential threat.

      • Stephen: Why would you ask Moby how to end suffering? Isn't the first answer no more techno?
