    • TRIVIA (1)

    • QUOTES (7)

      • Stephen: I'll talk about gay issues but I'll be thinking of straight issues the whole time.

      • Stephen: Only six days until my book comes out. Spoiler alert! It's fantastic!

      • Dan Savage: You are likelier to be busted in a bathroom seeking gay sex than I am as an out gay man.
        Stephen: Excuse me?
Dan Savage: Larry Craig, for the time being, is a heterosexually identified man, so he is yours.
Stephen: Okay, then why if there are so many heterosexually identified men who are actually homosexuals, why are not gay people in the streets marching for the rights of heterosexually identified men? You are marching for my rights.
Dan Savage: There are some gay people who are happy to assist heterosexually identified men in all sorts of ways...

      • Stephen: My guest tonight is an astronaut who's seen the dark side of the moon. I'll ask if he saw it while listening to the Wizard of Oz soundtrack.

      • Stephen: The media is pushing its homosexual agenda again, by reminding us that there are homosexuals.

      • Stephen: I may disagree with what you say, but I'll fight to the death for my right to fight you to the death.

      • Stephen: If Lassie had any balls, she would have told Timmy to haul himself out of that abandoned mine shaft.

    • ALLUSIONS (3)

      • Stephen: What is the right stuff? Because I think some of my audience members may have it.

This expression was popularized by Tom Wolfe's book The Right Stuff, which told the story NASA's original seven astronauts (the Mercury Seven) and Chuck Yeager (the first pilot to break the sound barrier). The book was later made into a movie starring Dennis Quaid, Scott Glenn and Ed Harris.

      • Stephen: (to Jim Lovell) You, sir, are a steely-eyed missile man.

This is a lesser-known line from Apollo 13. It's said to an engineer after he designs an air filter that saves the crew from being asphyxiated by dangerously high levels of carbon dioxide. This was a real-life term of praise used in Mission Control at the time. The line is also fitting because Lovell had a cameo appearance in the movie.

      • The caption "Houston, we have a program" is a play on the widely-used tagline of the 1995 film Apollo 13, which is of course, "Houston, we have a problem."
