Stephen: Tonight: What's in the stimulus package? I'm guessing high fructose corn syrup because that stuff's in everything. Then: I salute the Boy Scouts of America. Stephen Colbert: Now, the Democrats just are taking a page from the Republicans' Fear Book, which they found in the Vice President's office, under a loose floorboard, next to a beating human heart.
The location of the Fear Book is a reference to the short story The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe. In that tale, a murderer is driven mad by the sound of his victim's beating heart, long after the victim was killed, the crime scene cleaned, and the body stashed underneath the floorboards.
