  • No Word? What were they thinking?!

    8.1
The show opens with a teaser of content from the show, which involves everything from Jesus walking on water to the big earthquake which severely damaged San Francisco, CA.

Back from a week off, Stephen talks about the fact that today is tax day. He then talks about protesting the fact that we have to pay taxes. He then takes shots at President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and then protests the use of the dime.

Moving on, Stephen talks about a journal he read recently, and in it, scientists have questioned whether or not Jesus walked on water. They wonder if Jesus walked on a chuck of ice which was floating over the water, since that part of the world does have cold snaps every now and then. This is a perfect segway for the "Easter Is Under Attack" graphics package. Stephen then reads some scripture and cancels his subscription to the journal and then shows a clip of a music video from the group "The Cars", which features Ric Ocasek walking on water. He then consults Ric Ocasek in the studio and brings out the "On Notice" board. With the help of Ric, Stephen removes Faberge Eggs and replaces it with "Journal of Paleolumnology," and then Ric removes "Business Casual" and replaces it with "Todd Rundgren".

Back from commercial, Stephen turns his attention to the terrible San Francisco earthquakes 100 years ago, and ponders "Was It Really That Bad?" While 3,000 people may have died, San Francisco is as populated as it ever has been and is doing fine, so it couldn't have been that bad.

Back from commercial, Stephen welcomes tonight's guest, Reza Aslan. Stephen and Reza have a great discussion on Bin Laden and how other Islamic people are using the religion to advance their own agenda, which is having a terribly negative affect on the public image of Islam. When Stephen suggests that Reza say something inflammatory to sell more books, Reza politely refuses.

Back from commercial, Stephen ends tonight's show with another edition of "That's The Craziest F#?king Thing I've Ever Heard." It seems a group of scientists have used lasers to make a tiny pair of glasses for the common house fly. Stephen thinks it's crazy, like giving nunchucks to bears.

I liked most of the episode, but not having "The Word" was a big disappointment. The Jesus walking on water topic could have been done well for "The Word" and didn't need to be a completely separate bit.moreless
