The real Father Edward J. Flanagan founded the orphanage called Boys Town outside Omaha, Nebraska, in 1921. In 1938, Spencer Tracy played Father Flanagan in the film Boys Town and won an Academy Award for his role as the priest who took troubled boys under his wing and gave them hope and encouragement.
