Episode 5
AIRED:
It's the day of Debbie Sharpe's funeral, and the Skeetmoor has turned out en masse. Mel attends to monitor the mood as she tries to balance her professional duties with her growing sympathies for the women. And that's not the only complication: she's started sleeping with Darrell Stone. As the ceremony concludes, word gets round that Reynolds has been bailed. Davo has disappeared, and without him as witness the court was unable to remand Reynolds. The scale feel let down by the court, but the estate blames them. Tension is high, and a support unit is standing by in case of trouble. The women of Skeetsmoor have had enough: led by local counsellor Jo Warren, they decide it's time to take action. This is a rough shift for Maggie Hayes, Personnel Officer, to spend out with the scale. Paired with Dean, he rather enjoys showing her the ropes although he misconstrues her remarks about cottaging as an admittance of being gay. This spreads quickly round the station. Like most of the scale, they're looking for Davo who is hiding from the good hiding he'll get if Reynolds' gets his hands on him. Colin finds him, but can't keep up when he scarpers. Nat and Giffin pay older brother, Rosco Davenport, a visit. He denies knowledge of Davo's whereabouts, and asks permission to go out to take his child to nursery. The Skeetsmoor women are furious about the police's insensitivity and descend on the station, demanding answers from the hapless Newland. Mel, learns from them that Reynolds is still dealing, via Davo's brother Rosco: he hides everything in his kid's hood. Nat pulls him in and Davo is soon picked up. But as a warning their mother receives a vicious beating: it's Maggie and Dean who find her. There's no way Davo or Rosco will talk now, and the case against Reynolds looks set to crumble. To publicise their desire to clean up the estate the women organise a candle-lit vigil to which Mel is invited. Mel agonises over her decision but eventually goes with the mothers, blowing out Darrell in the process. She is spotted on the vigil by Mike and Nat: 'She's getting herself way in too deep.'moreless
