When Darryl arrives for the date, Cliff sends Theo upstairs to get Sondra, but Theo had just left Sondra in the kitchen. Why didn't he go back into the kitchen if he knew that's where she was?
Clair: Let me tell you something, Elvin.
Cliff: Oh, lord...
Clair: You see, I am not "Serving" Dr. Huxtable. OK?
Clair: That sort of thing goes on in a restaurant! I'm bringing him a cup of coffee because he brought me a cup of coffee this morning, and that is what marriage is all about. Give and take, fifty-fifty. And, if you don't get it together and DROP these macho attitudes, you are never gonna have anyone bringing you anything, any place, anytime EVER! (Sweetly) Now then, what would you like in your coffee?
Elvin: (shaken) Maybe I could get you some coffee!
Sondra (singing): The flowers have died, there is no morning dew, the crickets know no love songs and I feel so blue.
Sondra: But I don't wanna feel better.
Cliff: The rest of the family wants you to.
Cliff: Don't you have some friends who could tell you about...somebody?
Sondra: Well, there is this guy my friends tell me I should meet...
Cliff: CALL HIM!
Sondra: But Dad, he goes to Oberlin. That's in Ohio.
Cliff: WE'LL FLY HIM IN!
Elvin: My mother works and I don't like it. Sometimes I come home and there's no dinner ready.
Cliff (laughing): What, are your hands broken?
Sondra: Good, then we'll be done by the time my ride gets here.
Cliff: Maybe by the time your ride gets here, you'll have a new ride.
Cliff: You don't have time!
Darryl: Why not?
Cliff: Because he's coming!
Darryl: Who's coming?
Darryl: Who's Elvin?
Cliff: Elvin is the fellow she likes.
Darryl: Oh. Then why am I here?
Cliff: Because you're the fellow I like!
Clair: Whomever Sondra ends up with, that is her decision and we have to respect that.
Cliff: Well, is it okay for me to root for who I like?
Cliff (to Elvin): When she brings the coffee back, if I were you, I wouldn't drink it.
Midway through the episode, Theo goes to the living room and complains to Cliff about Sondra giving him a hard time about taking the last glass of milk. The scene where Sondra chastises Theo about the milk actually happened and is seen in the original cut, but not in syndication.
This is the first apperance of Geoffrey Owens as Elvin.
Joseph C. Phillips was later a regular cast member as Martin Kendall, Denise's husband.
