I'm taking a sociology class, and my teacher was talking about master statuses, and he used an episode of this show as an example. It was one where Cliff was walking down the street around Christmas time, and he comes across this store and sees a boom box in the window, and thinks about getting it for Theo, but the store is closed. Before he can go, a cop car comes along and they ask him what he's doing. Cliff jokes that he is thinking of robbing the place, and they take him seriously and arrest him. Then he calls Clair and she comes down to the police station and shows them his I.D. and they see that he's a doctor and let him go. I have never seen this episode, and was looking for it on the episode guide, but didn't see it. Maybe I missed it, or maybe he was just making it up. Or maybe he was thinking of the show Cosby.

Thanks for the response. When I couldn't find that episode, that's what I suspected.

i haven't checked, but could your prof. have been talking about Cosby, instead of Cosby Show? just a suggestion, not sure about it, although it sounds like it could be a comical episode

This also sounds similar to an episode of "Roc". In that episode, Roc's brother, Joey, is watching a friend's very high-class apartment. Roc keeps getting on Joey's case for constantly freeloading. Roc has to leave, when he gets back, Joey won't let him in. The police then arrest Roc because he doesn't have his ID with him and they think he's trying to break into the building. While he's in police custody, Roc isn't allowed to make a phone call or anything. When his family get there and show that he hasn't done anything wrong, the police let him go with a very snide apology.
