I thought they never needed Pam. I thought that she, Charmaine and Lance ruined the show toward the end of the series.

Just an evolution.. I don't think they ruined the show at all.. just brought something differant.. the show was coming to an end anyhow.. This is a classic show and I enjoyed all the seasons

I liked Charmaine and Lance, though not as much as the regulars. As for Pam, I don't really like her, but she doesn't bother me either - she was just OK.

I think that Pam, Lance and Charmaine ruined the chemistry of the Cosby Show. It used to seem like a logical family but with the additions of all these characters the show seemed to be less realistic. Well you can also strongly make a case that the ratings really suffered after Pam came into the show. The show went from #1 to the deep end of the Top 20.

I don't think Pam, Lance, and Charmaine RUINED the show, but I agree that they may not have been the best characters on the show.

I actually liked Pam. She came from a lower-class neighborhood, but wasn't ghetto. Now Olivia, SHE is the reason I think the show "jumped the shark"! Egad, was this child annoying? She was one of those types that adults describe as being "five going on thirty".

I never cared for pam either. I think they pretty much brought her in to replace Vanessa since she went to college. I liked Vanessa so much better.

Bill Cosby believes in helping out new and upcoming talent by having those three characters help boost their career.

Lance was already an known actor from his role in New Jack City

Charmaine was also a known actress from her role in lean on me.

Did anyone know that Slide played charmaine boyfrined in Lean on me?

This was Pam's first real role. She appeared in other series and movies but with a small role or no reaccuring roles

Did you know that Karen Malina White (Charmaine) went on to marry Malcolm Jamal Warner (Theo) in real life?

Please! Olivia was just so damned obnoxious. None of the other children acted as bratty in their youth. Not even Nelson and Winnie. Raven-Symone didn't even act that way on any of the other shows that she went on. She says she can't really remember too much about being on "The Cosby Show", only the coloring of the carpet and the scent of Bill Cosby's cigars. Pam was a hundred times better than Olivia.

I have to agree about Pam.  While I do like Erika Alexander, her character on this show shouldn't have been something to make her a series regular.  Her story arc would have been more beneficial on 'A Different World', since her, Charmaine, Lance and Sly were all in high school, and thinking about their futures.  I think the better approach would have been to have 'A Different World' have episodes where one of the Hillman crew (probably Freddie, or Kim) be a mentor to Pam and there we could have met the other 3 characters.  Having Pam live in the area of Hillman and maybe distantly related to the Huxtables would have been more likable.  But adding her to to 'The Cosby Show' just threw the chemistry off, especially when there could have been just as good (probably better) stories created for the current Huxtable kids already there.

As a sidenote, I believe that the show JTS (jumped the shark) when Olivia became a "front" running character every episode.  She became the new young "cute one."  I can understand her being there for Denise and Martin obviously.  But there were episodes with her, that didn't even have her parents.  And then they left for the last season, but Olivia was still there, but conveniently, she was to go with them in the last episode, despite the reasons for her not going in the beginning of that season?  It was just silly...and while it was good watching her grow, she became overexposed.

I think Pam, Charmaine, and Lance were added to appease those people who always complained that the Huxtables were an unrealistic black family. They came in to give those who were from that background a "rooting" interest. I liked Pam, but I thought Charmaine and Lance were a little too cartoonish. Especially Charmaine. In fact, I found her only slightly less cartoonish than Dijonnay Jones, the character Karen Malina White voiced on "The Proud Family".

I don't think Pam ruined the show at all. I enjoyed herstorylines much more than those of Theo and the kids at the community center.
