Vanessa's favorite food/meal is hot dogs.
Denise: Dad, it's okay to be weird here, but you're going outside the house now.
Theo: He's a minister, Dad, he'll tell God we're crazy.
Vanessa: Rudy, what I'm trying to say is your fish is dead.
Rudy: What is "dead"?
Theo: Your fish! Yuck!
Cliff: (Talking to Denise) Take the glasses off!
(Denise takes them off, revealing weird make up on the side of her face)
Cliff: Put the glasses on!
Cliff: Now. What is it?
Vanessa: Rudy's home.
Cliff: (pause) There better be more.
Cliff: We're here to say goodbye to a cherished friend: Lamont, the goldfish.
Vanessa: I've always felt safe with him around.
Cliff: It's okay if you cry.
Rudy: Maybe later.
Cliff: Now what else can we do?
Vanessa: She's always wanted a dog.
Clair: Your mama did the most amazing thing today.
Rudy: Not now, Mom.
Cliff: How important is it?
Vanessa: Eight.
Cliff: Is that a child's eight, or an adult's eight?
Vanessa: I don't know. I've never been an adult.
Cliff: Everything okay?
Rudy: Uh-huh.
Cliff (under his breath): That's what you think.
Vanessa: What Dad's trying to tell you is that your goldfish is decreased.
Cliff: Close...deceased.
Vanessa: Hi Mom. Rudy's fish died and Dad's gonna...
(Cliff covers her mouth)
Rudy: Can I have some privacy?
Cliff: Oh, you wanna say goodbye to Lamont?
Rudy: No, I have to go to the bathroom.
Clair: I love living here; coming in third behind your patients and a dead goldfish.
Cliff: Hey, Clair. Fish goes, you move up to number two.
Cliff (on phone with the reverend): Hello, Reverend. I have a religious question. Christmas. Will it be the same time next year? All right, December 25th.
The bathroom set seen in this episode is different than what is seen in future episodes. The setup is different and the walls are a darker blue.
For many of the earlier episodes, the living room has a landing coming in from the front door. It is 2 steps higher up from the rest of the room.
This episode is the first to use the new living room set. Every episode from this point has this living room set.
For his work in this episode, Earl Pomerantz was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy.
Lamont the goldfish was the subject of an E! True Hollywood Story-type spoof in ads run on Nick at Nite in 2002. The ads claim that Lamont was written out of the show because of creative differences with Bill Cosby.
