Cliff watches his father play trombone with his old band, but finds his performance very disappointing. He confesses to his mother that Russell seemed scared to be playing with a bunch of musicians who still perform on a regular basis. Anna feels that Russell has lost his passion for music, and hopes that he won't make a fool of himself at a jam session the group plans to play to honor an old friend's memory. Anna tries to work with Russell to get him to play at a faster tempo and show more enthusiasm. During the show, he delivers a great performance that brings his family to its feet. Anna is pleased when Russell is able to keep playing well into the night, while his cocky rival (who has a wife with a big mouth) falls asleep early. Meanwhile, Rudy annoys her siblings by constantly subjecting them to "knock-knock" jokes.
