Episode Summary

Rudy feels left out when her siblings refuse to include her in their activities, so Cliff agrees to let her have a slumber party. Peter, a neighbor boy who never seems to say a word, ends up joining the party when he follows Cliff and the girls into the house. Cliff tries to keep the children entertained by playing a game called "bucking horse," where the kids ride on his leg as if it were a bronco. Russell comes over and bets Cliff that he can quiet the rambunctious kids within sixty seconds. He succeeds by telling the children that Cliff will give them money if they calm down.moreless

The episode “Slumber Party” is a great example of the creativity of Bill Cosby. Dr. Huxtable (Bill Cosby), after having entertained Rudy’s friends for as long as he can, makes a bet with his own father. This bet is that Grandpa Huxtable will be unable to quiet Rudy’s friends within one minute. Dr. Huxtable, after being defeated, asks Rudy what her Grandpa said to make them quiet. Rudy then says, “He said that if we would all be quiet, than you would give each of us a dollar in the morning.” This line pretty much makes the whole episode worth your while.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • After Cliff goes into the kitchen and sends the kids into the living room to see Russell, he mentions Russell to Theo, who says, "He's here? I'll go say hi." But Cliff just came into the kitchen and announced quite loudly that Russell wanted to see the kids. So shouldn't Theo have already known he was there?

    • During the scene where the twin sisters were singing their song, Theo was asked by Cliff to go to Peter's house and ask his mother if he could stay. Theo left immediately after this. But if you look closely while the twins are singing, you'll see Theo's arm in the scene. When the twins finish performing, they sit down. After this, you see Theo coming through the door after having just gone to Peter's house.

    • Naoka said earlier in the episode that she hadn't ever had a cookie because of her milk allergy and Cliff said that she wouldn't get one at their house. However, later in the episode, Cliff tells them all to go get a cookie and Naoka runs into the kitchen with the rest of them.

    • She was called Naoka in this episode (which is her real name), but in later episodes her character's name was Kim.

  • QUOTES (3)

    • Cliff: What's the matter?
      Rudy: I'm bored.
Cliff: You're bored? Well that's funny because I've got $3 million of books up in your room.

    • (reading the note from Naoka's parents)
Cliff: It says here that you're a compulsive gambler, and that you're wanted by the police. Is this true?
      Naoka: No.
Cliff: But it does say that you're allergic to does that mean you can't have a cookie if it has milk in it?
      Naoka: I don't know.
Cliff: Have you ever had a cookie before? (Naoka shakes her head) Well you're not going to get one now.

    • The Twins' Song:

      Uno, dos, siesta
      I said a-east, a-west
I met my boyfriend at the candy store
He bought me ice cream, he bought me cake
He brought me home with a belly ache
      Mama mama, I'm so sick
Call the doctor quick quick quick
      Doctor, doctor will I die?
Count to five and you'll be alright
      I said, a-one, a-two, a-three, a-four, a-five
      I'm alive!
