Clair learns that a painting by her great-uncle, famed artist Ellis Wilson, is up for auction at Sotheby's. She reminisces about seeing the painting on her grandmother's wall years ago, and is determined to get it back into her family--even though the estimated price is $7000 to $9000. Elvin tries to learn to cook in the hopes of impressing Clair and proving that he has revised his attitudes about women. However, he quickly offends Clair with another sexist remark. He tries to make it up to her by offering to cook dinner for the family after the auction. Cliff, having earlier sampled Elvin's disastrous attempt at a chocolate cake, offers to give him some tips. He tells him about his homemade "secret sauce," which actually comes out of a jar. Theo meets a girl before the auction and asks her to teach him about art. His sisters conspire to embarrass him. Clair wins the auction, buying the painting for $11,000.
