Episode Summary

EDIT
Cliff dreams that the eruption of a volcano in Peru has sent spores into the drinking water and caused men to become pregnant. Cliff, Elvin, Martin and Theo are all pregnant. Theo deals with stares and unkind comments because he is an "unwed father." The pregnant men all become very emotional, while the women act insensitive toward them most of the time. The guys all go into labor at the same time, and suffer excruciating pain. Martin gives birth to a toy sailboat, while Theo has a mini sports car. Cliff has twins: a gigantic hoagie and a bottle of orange soda. After "experiencing" pregnancy and childbirth, Cliff wakes up and tells Clair how much he appreciates her and how much he admires all women.moreless

  • This is the episode entitled, The Spores Have Landed.

This episode was one of the funniest I had ever seen. I cant wait for season 6 to come out on DVD. I will buy it so I can laugh again and again at the antics of the men in the Huxtable family. Others on the net didnt like it but dont listen to them. Watch it for yourself and you will be laughing out loud almost immediately!
  • One of the most original episodes...

Cliff is already known for delivering babies, but what if he had the baby. What made this episode so funny was the fact that an eruption of a volcano in Peru sent spores into the drinking water and caused men to become pregnant, it makes no sense but that's why it's funny. During the show we see Cliff, Theo, Elvin and Martin trying to act brave through the pain of the contractions and the kicking. Finally it was time to give birth and instead of giving birth to babies, they all gave birth to something they like, or something they wanted. A very funny episode and a real original idea of an episode, it's one of my favorites.moreless

I thought this episode was funny, and obviously fictional. This is one of two episodes (both in season 6) that Cliff has bad dreams. This one is result of eating late at night, and so is the other one (Clair mentions this dream to him). It was also funny to see woman coaching their husbands in childbirth.

  • TRIVIA (5)

    • Early in the episode, a news report is heard (off screen) about the spores. The report is read by longtime NBC News anchor/reporter John Palmer.

    • In syndication, the song that the pregnant men dance to (following the commercial break) is different than in the original broadcasts.

    • How come they never show what Elvin gave birth to?

    • When Jeffrey gives his long speech about giving birth, he says he had a "tiny creature," so why did all the other men give birth to inanimate objects (sailboat, car, giant hoagie sandwich)?

    • When Russell explains why he was the only one who didn't get pregnant, he made up some excuse about the spores not getting to New Jersey. Wouldn't it make more sense to say Grandma Anna couldn't get him pregnant because she's menopausal? They're in their seventies after all.

    • Theo's pregnancy during this episode is likely a reference to Season 2's "Denise's Friend," when Cliff asks Theo what he would do if he be got pregnant.
