Episode Summary

EDIT
The Huxtables hold a barbecue as Denise and Martin's first anniversary approaches. After learning that Denise had a wedding shower but Martin never had a real bachelor party, Theo decides to rectify this problem. Denise is horrified by Theo's plans to hire a stripper for the event. Martin delivers a mixed message by smiling and laughing as he tells Theo not to do this. Denise believes that Martin should have rejected the suggestion outright. Denise and Sondra rant and rave over the sexism involved in having strippers at bachelor parties, and Sondra criticizes Elvin for agreeing to attend the party. An all-out battle of the sexes breaks out as the couples fight at the barbecue. Cliff and Clair stay out of the fray, although Clair repeatedly criticizes Theo for causing trouble. Cliff's parents arrive, and Anna seems not to mind as Russell recalls the fan dancer at his bachelor party. The Tibideauxs and Kendalls decide that their arguments are trivial, and make up. However, a furious Anna confesses to Russell that she hates his bachelor party story; she didn't want him to have a stripper either. Everyone eventually ends up hugging and kissing, and Cliff gives the credit to his special barbecue sauce.moreless

  • Funny, but not really meant for the kids.

More than any other episode, this was one that was shocking for The Cosby Show. I think that the target audience of this episode wasn't the family, but more for couples, which is why, although funny, this episode was shocking. Basically Cliff prepares a barbecue for everyone, and Theo sets up for a stripper to come to Martin's bachelor party. This is because Martin never had a bachelor party. Denise gets offended by it, as well as Sondra, when her husband Elvin shows off how he used to be, very chauvinistic, when he doesn't seem to care. Multiple funny arguments take place at the table, about how men ogle, or drool, over women who look a certain way. Clair criticizes Theo many times for starting the problem. Even Russell talks about how he enjoyed the stripper at his bachelor party, which Anna also states she was offended by. It appeared that Cliff was the only one who didn't have a stripper at his party otherwise I think Clair would've said something. At the end, they make up and Denise decides to be the stripper, interesting that she says that in front of Cliff and Clair. Cliff says his sauce did it, which is why he then takes it away from Kenny, who was near Rudy. Although the majority of the episode could have offended family viewers, it was still funny.moreless

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • Goof: When Anna chews Russell out in the backyard, Clair calls her Mama, but since Anna is her mother in law Clair normally would call Anna by her first name.

    • Cliff claims his barbecue sauce is what makes everybody get all "huggy-buggy," but Russell and Anna hadn't eaten any of it yet before they started to get romantic.

    • When Denise, Martin, Sondra & Elvin are arguing about men liking legs and breasts, Russell enters and mentions he's a "leg man," referring to the chicken, causing Denise to yell out, "Oh, great, it runs in the family!" This doesn't make any sense, since Russell is HER grandfather, not Martin's, and she's complaining about Martin being a "leg man," too.

  • NOTES (2)

    • The season 6/7 closing music is somewhat extended for this episode.

(There is a small segment of new music before the usual start of the music.)

Also this episode, nobody says, "The Cosby Show is taped before a studio audience" at the very end. The only other time this happens in season 7 is "Nightmare on Stigwood Avenue."

    • Tempestt Bledsoe and Erika Alexander do not appear in this episode.
