Cliff is upset when Mrs. Granger, a kindly woman who cleans the doctors' lounge, is a victim of staffing cutbacks at the hospital. He tries to intervene on her behalf, to no avail. Theo spends a Saturday playing with Rudy. Vanessa warns them not to run in the house, so they go to Theo's room and play "circus." They try to imitate the tumblers, but Rudy ends up slamming into a wall and injuring her face. Vanessa notes that Theo has injured all of the girls in the family, and warns that they will get back at him someday. Theo and Rudy try to come up with a cover story so that they won't get in trouble, but Clair sees through it. She has Theo clean the house. Although Cliff had checked out Rudy and concluded that she is okay, Clair and Rudy insist on seeing the pediatrician. While Rudy has lunch with the nurses after her check-up, Cliff talks with Mrs. Granger. She is philosophical about losing her job, declaring that she can now control her own destiny for the first time in her life. Her daughter has offered to put her through college as a means of thanking her for supporting her for so many years.
