  • Advertising executive Simon Roberts owns and operates his Chicago based firm with his up and coming daughter.

    7.0
Being a Robin Williams fan (and a fan of the great city of Chicago) I decided to give "The Crazy Ones" a look. While I am still not sure if I will become a fan of the show there are a few things to like here. The first is of course the obvious. Robin William is well cast here as Simon Roberts. His acting ability and comic talents seem to fit right in and don't overshadow the rest of the cast. Sarah Michaelle Gellar also does well as Williams' daughter. Another thing I like about this episode is that it does not spend much time on a back story for the characters and gets right into the workings of the ad agency and how things operate. So overall, it was not a bad pilot. It was good enough at least for me to tune in for the next episode.moreless
  • SOMETHING SOME CHARM...

    8.0
Robin Williams WAS JUST GREAT HE GAVE THE SHOW THE ESSENCE IT NEEDED IN IT AND I THINK IT IS GONNA HIT SOME GOOD RATINGS THROUGHOUT THE 'EM LUCK...
  • Sarah Michelle Gellar pitching McDonalds? Very interesting

    8.0
I thought that this was a pretty good pilot episode for the show. Robin Williams and Sarah Michelle Gellar both set their basic characters, and how they are so different, but in the end, manage to work together. The supporting characters were just barely introduced, but I'm sure their characters will receive more attention over time.

There's a wonderful irony in that the episode was about an ad campaign for McDonalds. As a child actress in 1981, SMG made a Burger King commercial that criticized McDonalds for having 20% less meat in their hamburgers.

It was perhaps the first instance of an ad directly criticizing a competitor. McDonalds sued Burger King, and named little SMG as part of the lawsuit. Though the lawsuit was ultimately settled out of court, SMG was banned from McDonalds.

So, does the presence of McDonalds as part of the episode's story line mean that the corporation has finally forgiven SMG?moreless
  • Pilot Shows That This Could Be Interesting

    6.5
It was not a perfect pilot, there were definitely times where the jokes were few and far between, but I thought it worked. I didn't think this premise and concept would work in the sitcom world, but they showed here it does. Sarah Michelle Gellar could have been better, but I was shocked that Robin Williams even had some amusing lines. The supporting cast could be featured more, and I expect that to happen in the next few episodes.

I was intrigued. Not great, but it could end up being that one day.moreless
