  • Dr. Jay, one more great episode.

    9.1
I find this episode funny and I think it is underapreciated, even for a Critic episode, I don't think hardly anyone has seen this episode and I only saw it after buying the dvd set, I wish there were actually more episodes made with great plots and humour like this one.

I find this episode much more funnier than almost every episode in The Simpsons seasons 13 through 17. The jokes in this episode have grown on me over time, I was only eleven the first time I saw this and I harldy laughed then I watched it again when I was twelve and laughed my ass off.

I do miss tv of this calibur and wish there could be more shows like this.moreless

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (15)

  • QUOTES (8)

    • Waiter: You will be having wine with your meal?
Jay: No thanks. My son is too young and the last time I drank, I woke up in a petting zoo and there was one goat missing.

    • Jay: You can't do this!
Duke: Yes, I can! If I want Citizen Kane's last word to be "schwing" then "schwing" it's gonna be! I'm a god, I tell you. A god--!
(Duke falls to the ground and believes he is dying)
      Duke: Rosebud... I mean "schwing"!

    • Jay: Tell me, have you ever thought about going to church?
Duke: Religion, huh? Well, like other members of America's cultural elite, I worship Pan the Goat God.

    • Doctor Krekorian: He's still alive. I've never lost a patient before.
Nurse: You can still run him down in the parking lot.
      Doctor Krekorian: To the deathmobile!

    • Duke: All I have to do is inject six ounces of the serum into my eyeball every four hours.

    • Jay: Yes, I'm a doc! I'm a sneezy, happy doc! (yawns) I'm a sleepy, happy, sneezy doc. Boy, if I don't get to bed soon I'm gonna be a grumpy, dopey, happy, sneezy, sleepy doc. (walks off screen, then sticks his head back into frame) Bashful.

    • Duke: (to Noah Webster) How about that other word I invented, "Dukelicious"? No one's using it? What a Duketastrophe.

    • Duke: Jay, get a pen and paper, I'm going to dictate my will.
Jay: What am I, your secretary?
Duke: Son, the only thing you have in common with my secretary are humungous breasts.

  • NOTES (1)

    • Opening & Closing Gags
Phone Call: "Hello Jay, this is the Devil. Despite what you think, I am not the reason Cher won an Oscar. I am the reason Marisa Tomei won an Oscar."
Movie Parody: A monkey bangs on a rock vending machine with a bone. Out drops a can of "Pensa Cola" which the monkey drinks (2001: A Spaced Odyssey)
Response to Usher: "Is the snack bar still open?"

  • ALLUSIONS (8)

    • Jack Kevorkian, M.D.
Doctor Krekorian is a parody of Jack Kevorkian, M.D. Also known as Dr. Death. Kevorkian was imprisoned in 1999 for 8 years for assisting the suicide of Thomas Youk. Over his career, he euthanized at least 130 people.

    • Rocky
Marty impersonates Sylvester Stallone from the Rocky movies.

    • The Simpsons
Duke making up "Qwizybuk" as a word in Scrabble is very similar to Bart making up "Kwijibo" in The Simpsons episode "Bart the Genius" which was produced by Critic show creators Al Jean and Mike Reiss while they worked there.

    • Gone With the Wind
Duke's flashback of his great-grandfather being sick and infecting his troops is a parody of a very famous scene in the 1939 movie Gone With the Wind that shows the thousands of wounded soldiers in the Confederate Army.

    • Ted Turner / Philips Electronics
Duke's PHILIPSVISION is based on the time Ted Turner bought MGM's library of films and started colorizing them to be broadcasted on his many television networks, much to the horror of classic film fans. Also, the font on PHILIPSVISION closely resembles the font used by Philips Electronics.

    • Babar / Elephant Walk
After Duke tells Jay that he resembles the character Babar from a popular French children's book series, Jay walks away swinging his arm like an elephant's trunk to the tune "The Elephant Walk".

    • Kool Aid Man
Winey Jacques is a parody of the Kool Aid commercials from the late 80s/early 90s where the Kool Aid Man would crash through the wall to deliver Kool Aid to the children.

    • Lorenzo's Oil
Duke's Oil is a spoof of Lorenzo's Oil (1992), starring Susan Sarandon and Nick Nolte.
