Bill Clinton
AIRED:
Tonight, former President Bill Clinton promotes his new book, Giving: How Each of Us Can Change the World. Jon begins tonight's show reporting on Bush's press conference where he criticicized Democrat's new SCHIP health insurance bill and also said that lack of progress in Iraq is partly due to Iraqi's "recovering from Saddam Hussein's brutal rule". "Mess O'Potomac" continues as Jon shows us how the Democrat's promise 9 months ago has changed from ending the Iraq War to giving the troops more time off. Finally, Jon reports on the controversy surrounding the new CBS reality series Kid Nation in a segment called "3'10" to Yuma". Senior Child Correspondent Dan Bakkedahl report's live from the new nation and talks about how he has dominated the children and become their overlord.moreless

Starting off with some good old fashioned daily show bush bashing the show was already off to a hilarious start, then the democrats were criticized for their last 9 months in congress. They next went on to talk about a show "Kids Nation" in which kids apperantly had to live on their own with the normal reality show twists. Then dan bakkedahl went into a 1 on 1 with jon stewart on the subject.

Finally after a break clinton comes in for an extended interview (longer than the average daily show interview, as they have done before). Clinton puts on a very good interview about his book, politics, and his wife.moreless

  • TRIVIA (0)

  • QUOTES (6)

    • Jon Stewart President Bill Clinton's prescription for 21st century America: Giving through charity and I believe if I may say, and I am paraphrasing here, ... naps!
Bill Clinton: Yeah. And both will make you happy!

    • Jon Stewart: The show did have some redeeming aspects. It taught decision making skills, like this classic puzzler.
Kid Nation Host: (clip) Which reward will you choose, outhouses or a television set?
Jon Stewart: Hmmmm. It's a tough call. A box filled with sh*t or an outhouse?

    • Bill Clinton (about Hillary): I'd be campaigning for her if we weren't married.

    • Jon Stewart (to Bill Clinton): We're gonna take a quick break, and when we come back, I'm gonna hit you with all the questions you don't want to answer.

    • (criticizing Bush's overreaction to Democrats new SCHIP health insurance bill)
Jon Stewart: Oh my God! They're gonna put Communism in our kids' drinking water! And inject 'em with the gay and load 'em onto Michael Moore and float 'em off to Cuba!

    • Jon Stewart: We've got a young kid on the show, an up-and-comer named Bill Clinton.

  • NOTES (1)

    • Moment of Zen: Bush answering a reporter's question on whether there's a risk of a recession in the economy: "You need to talk to economists. I think I got a B in Econ 101. I got an A however in keeping taxes low."

  • ALLUSIONS (3)

    • Jon mentions Simpsons character Lionel Hutz and shows a clip of him from an episode called Marge On The Lam. Lionel Hutz (voiced by the late Phil Hartman) was an extremely incompetent lawyer who did things like asking the judge for a "bad court thingy" instead of a mistrial.

    • Dan Bakkedahl: In Xanadu did Bakkedahl a stately pleasure dome decree, where Alph the sacred river ran . . .

This is a slight alteration of the first lines of Samuel Taylor Coleridge's poem Kubla Khan.

    • The caption "3'10 [as in 3 feet 10 inches] to Yuma" is a play on 3:10 To Yuma, a 2007 western movie starring Christian Bale and Russell Crowe.
