  • Jon rips into Bush and Christopher Hitchens.

Jon starts off the show by talking about Lance Armstrong, and the fact that he's being accused of cheating. Jon actually drew a picture of Lance Armstrong with a jet engine in his anus.

Jon then went back to the topic of Iraq and President Bush. Bush is still giving speeches to get the support of Americans, after the recent decline of support in the polls. President Bush has decided to get a mother to counteract Cindy Sheehan's protests.

Jon then showed President Bush's tendency to use repetition to get out of questions. He offered several dozen video clips of this.

Jon then showed Bush doing a little rap, using a number of video clips, and clever editing. As The Daily Show was going to commercial, they showed another clip of him admitting to using "propaganda". That must have been ad-libbed, because I doubt it was in his talking points.

After a commercial break, Jon was back with a segment about the Avian Flu, which has apparently made its way to Russia.

There's also another virus, which is new, in Asia. It's spread through pigs.

Jon's back with Christopher Hitchens, who wrote about President Thomas Jefferson. Jon asks him to help him to understand why he's wrong about Iraq. Mr. Hitchens discussed the topic of Iraq very intelligently, as did Jon. Jon didn't leave him much time to talk about his book. Also, in this interview, Jon seemed to get very angry, and in a way tore into Mr. Hitchens as though he were someone in the Bush Administration with any pull. He's not in the Administration, and I thought his anger and feelings, while I agree with, shouldn't have been so much used in this heated debate.

Overall, I thought this episode was somewhat boring. There wasn't much humor in the show tonight.moreless

  • QUOTES (2)

    • Hitchens: Don't you hear people say we've made them nastier.
Stewart: I hear people say a lot of stupid s***. But what I'm saying is there is reasonable dissent in this country about the way this war has been conducted that has nothing to do with people believing we should cut and run from the terrorists, or we should show weakness in the face of terrorism, or that we believe that we have in some way brought this upon ourselves. They believe that this war is being conducted without transparency, without credibility and without competence.
Hitchens: I just watched you ridicule the president...
Stewart: What I ridiculed the President about was he refuses to answer questions from adults as though we were adults, and falls back on platitudes and phrases and talking points that does a disservice to the goals that he himself shares with the very people he needs to convince.
Hitchens: You want the President on your side?
Stewart: I secretly need him to be on my side, he's too important not to be.

    • Jon Stewart: If I had a nickel everytime Bush has mentioned 9/11, I'd have enough reward money to go after Bin Laden.
