  • Lewis Black is back!

Jon starts off by mentioning the recent court decision about the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance in school by children. They ruled it was unconstitutional, mainly because of the "under god" portion of the saying. Jon explained the reasoning for the government adding it, we were involved in war with the "godless" communists in the Soviet Union, and it was our way of distinguishing ourselves from them.

Jon goes right to Ed Helms, who is now LIVE outside Hooters. He assures Jon this definately has to do with adaptation and evolution. It was a short, silly bit.

Jon then went on to Hurricane Katrina news. Jon said we had witnessed shocking news, President Bush took responsibility for the screwup in the southern region of the US.

Rebuilding of Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, etc has already begun, and companies who gave money to the Bush re-election campaign were given no-bid contracts.

Jon then went on to the news that Delta and Northwest both have declared bankrupcy. Oddly enough, they were among the first airlines to open service in the south after Hurricane Katrina.

After the commercial, it's Lewis Black! Lewis attacked the idea of creationism, and specifically went after individuals involved in the spread of the idea of creationism.

After the commercial, it was time for tonight's guest. Well, make that guests. The Daily Show managed to get an actual guest panel for the discussion on evolution. Jon led them in a frank, but polite discussion of creation/evolution.

Without a doubt the funniest part of tonight's show was when Jon learned that President Bush finally owned up to the disaster in the south and "took responsibility". Ed Helms' segment was kind of silly, but well written for the short amount of time he had. I'd have to say the lowpoint was Lewis Black's segment. Lewis seems to be spending more and more time on the setup for the joke. I listened for the audience's laughter, and they seem to agree that his stuff just isn't as good as it once was. The guest panel wasn't too bad. Jon did a great job with keeping it moving back and forth and injecting humor. You can't ask for much more from the guy.moreless
