  • A disappointing season opener.

    8.0
Jon starts off by mentioning tonight's guest and Jon seems quite happy about his break. Jon immediately turns his attention to the news about the mining tragedy. He attacks the media for the way they covered it.

Jon then gets right into the war on terror, where there has been news about President Bush approving a bill which allows the NSA to spy on Americans. Jon shows pieces of video of President Bush being questioned about the NSA spying. President Bush insists he has to protect people, which makes Jon think President Bush wants to be "big brother." For more on this, Senior Intelligence Analyst, Rob Corddry, live from NSA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Rob insists that President Bush should be trusted with spying, but Jon's not so sure. A ridiculous piece of audio is played which Rob insists was captured by the NSA of a senior Alqaeda member, but it's obviously a clip of Pat O'Brien.

Back from commercial, Jon turns his attention to Jack Abramoff, Washington lobbyist who has pled guilty to various changes this week. Jon pokes fun at the outfit Jack wore into court and shows some funny costume suggestions for Jack.

Back from commercial, Jon welcomes tonight's guest, George Packer. They get right into a discussion about the administration, and George reveals he's spoken to several administration officials who are beginning to discuss how they're not satisfied with the way things in the administration are going. The discussion turns to the war in Iraq.

Jon ends the show by mentioning Stephen will be back with a new season of The Colbert Report next week.

I felt tonight's episode was a big disappointment. The comedy was very average, nothing great. The highlight was probably the interview which I admit is a surprise. The book actually sounds rather interesting and I might have to pick it up.moreless
