  • Sheila Phelps is an alcoholic. When drunk, she seems to have been involved in a crime, but can remember little about it.

This very earnest episode deals with alcoholism and its terrible effects on quite ordinary people. Janice Rule, that fine actress of whom movies made so little, plays a well-heeled housewife whose deep unhappiness with her apparently comfortable life has led her first to drink - something her husband utterly fails to understand - and then into a terrifying situation. The Prestons, in defending her, present a plea for a greater understanding of alcoholism as a disease, rather than simply as a social embarrassment (which is what her husband sees it as). The arguments are familiar, and the episode, whilst well-intentioned, tends to be more argumentative than dramatic.moreless
