This episode went out at a time when LSD was little-known; it was then not simply a street drug which hippies used to "turn on", but something psychiatrists used - under strictly controlled conditions - to help patients through various conditions of mental illness or upset. Cary Grant had been an early advocate of its beneficial uses, astonishing as that now seems. In this episode, however, the dangers of using the drug, even under close medical supervision, are highlighted, and Donald Pleasence's well-known sinister persona was employed most adroitly. You find yourself never quite trusting this doctor, simply because Pleasence is playing him. Only two or three years after it was first aired, this story seemed to have come from a different age.
