  • Defending a young woman for the murder of her husband, Lawrence Preston begins to wonder about the probity of his chief defence witness.

So many issues were debated on this controversial show that it was a rare thing to get a straightforward courtroom-thriller episode. This one might almost fit into "Perry Mason", but it's no less enjoyable for that. Pat Hingle is the seemingly earnest defence witness whose remarks seem - unintentionally? - to make life ever tougher for the client in the dock. The moment where E.G. Marshall borrows an "aspirin" from him and begins to register a very unusual reaction to the tablet remains in the memory after all these years - although one must say that this particular twist is pretty preposterous if you think about it for a moment.moreless
