First of two shows on "Alcoholism in America". Host Dick Cavett welcomes guests Dr. Morris E. Chafetz, chairman of the National Council on Alcoholism, Nell Wing, librarian for Alcoholics Anonymous and four former or "arrested" alcoholics Capt. James A. Baxter, director of the United States Navy's special section for alcohol abuse, Tom Swafford, a Columbia Broadcasting System vice president, James McTavish a member of the Manhattan Bowery Project and the Reverend H. Gordon McDonald an Episcopal priest guest. Part I Host Dick Cavett interviews Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lutter and their teenage daughter Ann. The Long Island family describes Mrs. Lutter's past struggles with alcoholism from early "social" drinking to depression about reality's not matching the fantasy of a Harold Robbins novel to a suicide attempt.moreless
