  • Wonderful character revelations for all the cast...

    9.4
This episode was distinct as it mostly focused on the personal lives of all the characters in the show, although they all must come together to solve a major case. It also was the first part of a two-part episode, as the majority of the season ending episodes are.

As for the main case, three people who C.D. and Nate had just off to federal prison for stealing jewelry have taken the woman hostage who was transporting them. One of the men pulls a gun on Nate, but it jams and he hits him with it instead and gets back into the car and the three suspects leave. C.D. clearly reveals how much she cares for him as she rushes to be at his side. The new captain soon reveals that since a Federal official was involved that the F.B.I has been called in for a joint investigation and reveals his rules that he has for solving the case. Rules that the team does not like one bit, but they have to follow. Soon, the escapees kill a mother and daughter and the female escapee is seen casing a pawnshop to rob it. Jinny and Magda are sent in to see if she shows up. She does, but at a different store and another person ends up dead. After they take a young boy hostage, the team hits up everyone they know in the city to see if they can tell them where the three might be located. Eventually the boy is safely found, but the escapees have left once again.

This was one of the most interesting cases of the series. I really enjoyed the pacing of it and the direction of the case scenes were wonderful. I knew obviously that this episode would not show all that happened because it was a two-parter, but that did not take away from any part of the episode. It’s clear that the guys are not to happy with the new captain, and neither am I. He totally has no idea what he is doing, especially when Raina and C.D. try to get him to case a check-cashing store because Raina discovers that the key used in the home invasion will work on any security system of that type. I hope he gets what’s coming to him in the next episode.

Jinny is shocked when she finds out that Jack has decided that he wants to permanently move to Tucson, to be closer to his son because he does not feel like his relationship with her is going to work, even now that Jinny is in therapy for her drug addiction. Jinny informs him later on that she is not ready to get back together with him and Jack says it’s time to officially call it over. Jack stays the night, but leaves the next morning and Jinny informs Magda that it’s a trial separation. Jinny is soon shocked to learn that the gun that Ray Sanchez used to hit Nate with, was the same one that killed her brother, John Jr.

I felt really bad for Jinny in this episode as she is having to say good-bye to Jack. He did do the best he could with her, but I am not sorry that he chose to leave her because she did not keep clean as promised and this had to make him feel like he might start back drinking himself. Dean Cain was wonderful throughout his entire run as Jack and I will miss him for the rest of the series. I’m also interested in seeing what Jinny will end up doing now that she has found out about her brother’s killer.

Kate is finding stroke rehab is tough, but knows that it is for the best. Louis brings her the paper which informs her that they have picked a new Police Chief, since she cannot do it. Kate finally gets to come home, but it’s clearly hard for her to adjust. She even begins considering early retirement from the force. She soon gets a visit from C.D. and wants to know about the case and feels left out when she cannot help.

Magda goes to meet Jonah at a restaurant and she informs him that she could possibly be pregnant even though the test she took with Jinny said she was not. Jonah is convinced the baby has to be Gabe’s which angers Magda. Jonah says that if she is pregnant and the child turns out to be his that he will support her financially, but that he has no yearning to be a father. Magda finally realizes she’s not pregnant after she gets her period, but still finds it hard to say good-bye to Jonah. Gabe finds out that she went to have a blood test and when he discovers she is not pregnant, he wants to try. Jonah comes to tell Magda that he is sorry about what he said about her possibly being pregnant, but she is not buying it. She finally comes to the conclusion that she does not want him anymore.

I hope that Magda has finally come to her senses and realizes that Jonah only wants her to have sex with. I mean he did not even care about the fact that she was married at first. Although, now he has given her the ultimatum that it’s either him or Gabe. I know that she and Gabe have had problems, but Jonah is definitely not right for her. It is still funny that Magda turns out to not be pregnant when it is more than clear that Lisa Vidal is.

C.D. and Nate finally decide to discuss what happened at the hospital. Nate says that it’s clear that they both feel something for one another so they need to talk about it. The two were about to reveal how they felt about each other when the main case began. I really hope they get this sorted out soon.
