The Don Rickles Show (1972)

Show Summary

'Mr. Warmth' Returns To The Small Screen –

Considering his TV history, one might be inclined to think that Don Rickles just wasn't suited to serial television. His 1968 variety show was a complete flop, and his 1993 sitcom outing – Daddy Dearest – Lasted only 10 episodes. Even his biggest hit – C.P.O. Sharkey – would go only 2 seasons.

But... When, at first, he didn't succeed, The King Of Insult Comedy tried, tried again, in early 1972, with this short-lived CBS series, which depicted the trials and tribulations of Don Robinson – an account executive with the fictional New York advertising firm of Kingston, Cohen, and Vanderpool. Standing supportively by, as Don dealt with the challenges and stresses of his job, his employer, his co-workers, his friends, and with life in general, were his wife, Barbara (Louise Sorel), and 11 year-old Daughter, Janie (Erin Moran).

But, as subsequent outings would confirm, it seemed that the viewing public just couldn't accept Rickles in anything outside of a stand-up routine, and that – along with the fact that this show was scheduled on Friday nights, opposite the 2nd half of ABC's popular Love, American Sty|e – probably led to it's cancellation in May of '72, after only 13 episodes.moreless
