EDIT
Drew's in a Coma (2)
AIRED:
Drew is left comatose after a car accident. He enjoys a fantasy world where he is surrounded by scantily clad models, dines from pizza trees, and has a makeup-free Mimi as his slave. Meanwhile, his friends hold a bedside vigil. Mimi even kisses him in the hopes that the shock to his system would wake him. The doctor gives him an injection to help him come around, but it doesn't work. Drew insists that he would rather stay in the coma, as it seems much better than his real life. As a last resort, the doctor suggests that they remove him from the respirator. The shock will cause him to either come out of the coma or die. Steve (who has power of attorney) hopes to avoid this option. The gang tries surrounding Drew with familiar things, but there is no change in his condition. After Drew is removed from the respirator, he takes a test to see if he can get into heaven. He learns that he has been accepted. Mimi goes into labor in Drew's room.moreless

Very sad episode. Drew was put into a Coma after a car crash and went into his dream world, his mind is a lot like mine too. Drew bossing around Mimi cracked me up. One of the best episodes.

[Tv.COme Recap] Drew is running to catch a bus, but he starts to fly away. He's travelling around Cleveland in the air, like Superman.

Kate, Lewis Oswald, and a doctor are shown standing over Drew, who has fallen into a coma.

After a commercial, Kate, Lewis, and Oswald are shown standing over Drew. Lewis thinks maybe he's had brain injuries, so they'll be able to meet all over for the first time again. Oswald then shakes Drew, trying to wake him up. Kate yells at him, then talks to Drew for a little bit. In walk Mimi and Steve. Mimi tries to wake Drew up by kissing him, but it doesn't work.

Drew is having a dream, surrounded by beautiful woman. In his dream world, there's a pizza tree and a beer fountain. Mimi is even there, but she's not like herself. Mimi shows Drew a TV screen which shows what's actually going on. It shows Kate and everyone standing in the hospital room, but Drew can't communicate with them. Drew realizes that now that he's in a coma, he doesn't have to worry about storm windows or any of the things he'd have to normally take care of, which makes him happy.

Lewis and Oswald are playing paddy-cake with the paddles, which are shocking Oswald, literally.

Mr. Wick then walks in with some flowers. He's asked to sign for something, but Steve insists that he be the one to sign for the treatment.

Drew is back in his dream world. Mimi is telling Drew his schedule for the day, threesomes, foursomes, sex with George Clooney, etc.

Drew is given a shot, which is supposed to get him out of the coma. Drew doesn't want to get out of the coma, because he's having such a great time. The doctor suggests removing him from the respirator, so that maybe his body will fight the coma and come out of it. If he's unable to come out of it, he'll die. Drew comes up with the idea of communicating with his eyes, using morse code. Oswald notices the morse code, and is creeped out by the message, so he uses his hand to close Drew's eyes.

Everyone tries talking to Drew and getting him out of the coma. Kate starts rapping, with the hopes of waking Drew.

Ed (Joe Walsh) comes in and plays a song, with the hopes of getting him out of his coma. Back in his dream world, Drew is playing a quiz game with William Shakespeare and Abe Lincoln.

After a few minutes, parts of Drew's dream world disappear. They pulled Drew's plug, and he's taking the Heavenly Aptitude Test, which is being administered by Ben Stein. Drew passes the test, but he must decide if he wants to go to Heaven now, or go back to living.

This was a "To Be Continued" episode.

The episode ends with out-takes and bloopers.

The episode ends with out-takes and bloopers. I loved the bloopers.

The ideas shown in Drew's dreamland were funny, but I wasn't too crazy with the storyline of Drew having a coma.moreless

  • TRIVIA (0)

  • QUOTES (5)

    • Drew: Come on, my real life sucks! I just lost my girlfriend, I'm in a dead end job, I'm married to a man, I'm...I don't need another one--I'm married to a man!

    • (In a near death experience, Drew is judged for his sins)
Drew: Masturbation wouldn't be a sin, would it? I mean, if it was, I wouldn't be here. I'd be giving Hitler a sponge bath.

    • Drew: What's heaven like, anyway? Is it better than my coma?
Heavenly Guide: Yes. I'd say it's the only place other than the Mall of America that actually lives up to the hype.

    • (In the coma)
Mimi: I hope I didn't book too much into your schedule, sir. At two o'clock, you have a threesome; at three o'clock, you have a foursome; and at five o'clock, you have sex with George Clooney. (pause) No one's here to judge you.
Drew: Did you ever stop to think I might want to have a nap before I have sex with George Clooney?

    • Abraham Lincoln (playing Trivial Pursuit): History. I should know this!
(Drew reads the card to himself and laughs)
Abe: Sir, I studied history by candlelight for thirty years!
Drew: Okay, but here goes. Who shot you?
      Abe: I was shot?

  • NOTES (4)

  • ALLUSIONS (2)

    • One of the sections of Drew's coma is a doorway to "Great Sports Moments." He uses it to become a player on the Cleveland Browns and prevent the infamous "Drive" that kept the Browns out of the Super Bowl (one of the most famous moments in pro sports).

    • Drew: Hey: Captain Marvel!

One of the characters Drew encounters in his coma is Captain Marvel, an early 1940s superhero who was really not much more than a Superman parody.
