Never Been to Spain
AIRED:
Drew spends his entire vacation home sick with the flu. Milan prepares for her 19th birthday party, which will take place in Spain and feature many supermodels. Lewis and Oswald decide to apply for second jobs as airport security guards so that Oswald can afford his nursing school tuition. After Drew whines about never getting to travel anywhere, Milan invites him to her party. Oswald and Lewis get the jobs, and are extremely overzealous and incompetent (big surprise). Drew tries to cut in line and race through without undergoing a security check. He gets hauled off to a holding cell and misses his flight. The supervisor refuses to let him board another flight because he has been arrested so many times. Drew has Kate distract the supervisor by pretending to have lost a baby. He tricks Oswald and Lewis and runs past them to board the last flight to Spain. The plan has mechanical problems and lands in Greenland. He thinks his luck has changed when he meets a beautiful woman, but her jealous husband shows up and tries to kill him.moreless

Tonight's show opens with Lewis and Oswald setting up hundreds of mouse traps in Drew's living room. Unfortunately, they've cornered themselves with no way out because of the mouse traps. As they're on their way out, they mention Drew's on vacation, so they'll be sure to warn him before he gets back.

Later that night, at the Warsaw, Lewis calls Drew because he received word that Drew's not on vacation, but sick at home. We cut to Drew coming downstairs, getting his toes caught in the mouse traps, which is obviously causing him a great deal of pain. When Mimi comes over, Drew convinces her to close her eyes and come in for a surprise. When she does, she steps on the mouse traps just like Drew did.

The next morning, Mimi and Drew get into a fight at work with a pair of canes they are using because of their injured feet because of the mouse traps. Unfortunately, Mimi breaks a computer monitor just as Mr. Wick and Milan enter. Mr. Wick changes the subject to Milan's upcoming birthday party in Spain, which he would love to go to, but he comes onto her a little strong, so she scolds him. When Mr. Wick leaves, Milan asks Drew how his vacation was, but she gets a little depressed when Drew tells her how bad things went, such as the incident with the mousetraps in addition to the fact that he was mistaken for a lesbian at the supermarket. Lewis and Oswald come into Winfred-Louder and tell Drew about their interest in applying for jobs at the airport. Drew gets Oswald back for the mousetrap incident by getting him to place his hand into a paper bag containing a mousetrap, which went off and snapped two of his fingers. Milan then invites Drew to join her in Spain, which certainly lifts Drew's mood... a birthday party on an island full of supermodels.

At the airport, Lewis and Oswald are working security, and have a little fun with a man who has a metal plate in his head. After being yelled at by their supervisor, they go through the backpack of a young man. In their mind, he was suspicious, so they have him hauled off and searched further.

Over at Drew's, Kate stops by with some Viagra and a "sexy grandpa" t-shirt for Drew. Drew's busy packing for his vacation in Europe, but he's happy to spend a minute talking to Kate. Steve comes in with a magazine to show Drew photos of some of the models who will be at Milan's party. When he realizes he's a nobody compared to the models and has no shot with them, Kate and Steve tell him he can pretend to be someone else... it's a great way to re-invent himself for that short amount of time.

Back at the airport, Lewis and Oswald are still working as security guards. Because the metal detector keeps going off, they have a woman stripped down to her underwear. When they realize Oswald's watch is setting it off every time he asks the woman to walk through the metal detector, Oswald feels embarrassed. Drew then tries to run through the security gate to get to his plane which is leaving soon, but he gets taken away by other security guards.

Ten hours later, we see Drew waiting in a room for the security guards to deal with him. After a minute, the security guards come in and Drew tries to make a run for it, but he's stopped by the security guards.

Back to Lewis and Oswald's security station, they're processing a man who owns a computer. Unfortunately, Oswald drops part of his burrito on the man's open laptop, so he quickly closes it before the man notices it. Nearby, Drew calls Kate in and instructs her to distract the security by telling them that her baby has gone missing. Drew's hoping that this will allow him to get through security and get onto the plane. Kate does her part and Drew manages to slip by Lewis and Oswald and gets on the plane.

Back at Drew's house, Speedy doesn't seem to be eating well. As it turns out, Lewis, Oswald, Kate, and Steve all fed him separately, so he's stuffed. On TV, we see another report on Milan's party, but Drew's nowhere to be seen. Kate then receives a call from Drew, who's stuck in Greenland because the plane he was flying is having problems.

The show ends with Drew talking to a reporter as he's being hauled off to jail by the airport security.

The plot for tonight's episode wasn't exactly great, but the scenes at the airport were quite funny, particularly those involving Lewis and Oswald. The scene where they sing "Good Vibrations" is one of my favorite scenes for the entire series.moreless
  • A very funny episode

A very funny episode. In this episode Drew gets stuck at the airport and misses the best party of his life. That is something that shows that Drew is still hated by the man upstairs. I think this is one of the best episodes in the series just because of the bad luck.

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • It looks like Drew and Mimi needed their canes to be able to walk, but when they had their "sword fight" with the canes, they could jump around like they didn't even need them at all.

  • QUOTES (3)

    • (After metal detector goes off)
Lewis: Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Step over here, Sir. All the metal items out of your pockets.
Male Passenger: Yes, but I have a metal plate in my head.
Oswald: Take it out and put it in the basket.
Male Passenger: No, you don't understand; it's in my head.
      Oswald: Oh, so it's imaginary.

    • Lewis (to Drew, as he's being taken away by airport security): If they give you a cavity search, ask for Lyle. He's got small hands!

    • Kate: Are you sure you want to do this. If they catch you, you're going to get in trouble.
Drew: No, don't worry, it's a good plan. Look, there's the supervisor right over there. All you have to do is distract her so she can't see me and I'll take care of Oswald and Lewis.
Kate: This is very exciting. It's like sleeping with one of your dad's best friends and talking to his wife at a party.
Drew: Junior high was a confusing time for a lot of kids.
