See Drew Run
AIRED:
Winfred-Louder employees must risk their lives to get to work each day because the crosswalk from the new parking garage to the store is at an intersection that leads to the freeway. Faith, a member of the Optimists Club, gets hit by a car while trying to cross. Mimi fills in for her as operator of the store's day care center, and gets along surprisingly well with the kids. Drew demands that the store build a skywalk to the employee garage. Even after Drew finds several construction companies that will work cheap, Wick and the board ignore his complaints because they don't care if the workers get killed. Drew organizes a slowdown, but has to call it off after Wick threatens to fire everyone. Lewis and Oswald get hit by a car after visiting Drew at the store. The Winfred-Louder lawyers try to trick them into signing a waiver absolving the store of all responsibility. Drew announces that he is going on a hunger strike until the store agrees to build the skywalk. He doesn't eat for a week, but doesn't seem to lose any weight. A week later, Wick and Mimi come over to the house to find an emaciated Drew lying on the couch. Wick agrees to cave in to avoid negative publicity. After he is gone, the gang reveals that a skinny pizza delivery guy hid under a blanket and served as Drew's body.moreless

  • Drew goes on a hunger strike!

    8.4
Outside of Winfred Louder, Drew, Mimi, Kate, Larry, Chuck, and several other employees are trying to cross the street, but there's no safe way to get across. Drew and Chuck try going, but aren't able to make it. Larry does, but when Faith from the Optimist Club tries, she gets run over.

Inside Winfred Louder, Drew asks Larry to sign the get-well card for Faith, but he's not interested. Mimi comes in with a dozen or so kids in tow, which Drew pokes a little fun at. She's busy watching them since no one is working the daycare. Mr. Wick comes out and Drew asks him if he's read his memo, but he clearly hasn't. Drew asks him to build a sky walk so people can walk into work safely, but Mr. Wick says it's too expensive. Kate, Larry, and Chuck come by and ask how things went.

Lewis and Oswald come in with some kids from day care. Mimi and several other kids come by and shoot Drew with a water gun. When Mr. Wick comes out, Drew asks him again about the building the space walk, but Mr. Wick insists there's not enough money in the budget. Drew decides to ask everyone to slow down their rate of work, to less than half. He then calls it off when Mr. Wick threatens to fire people. Outside, Lewis and Oswald are trying to cross the road, but there's not having much luck. Back inside, everyone is watching the two of them run across the road, but they end up getting hit.

At the hospital, Lewis and Oswald are sitting in wheelchairs, all drugged up. Fenn & Geller come in and ask them to sign some papers so they won't sue Winfred Louder, but Drew comes in and stops that. Drew decides to go on a hunger strike to get Winfred Louder to make that space walk.

At work, Drew's marking off the days of his hunger strike when Mimi and all of the kids come running through the office, making a lot of noise. Drew says that they found someone to take over the daycare, so they don't need Mimi for that anymore. Mr. Wick comes out and pokes a little fun at Drew, since he doesn't appear to have lost any weight, despite being on the hunger strike for five days. Mr. Wick tries to tempt Drew with a chocolate bar. Larry, Kate, Chuck, and several others stop by and ask Drew what's going on, is he gaining weight?! People are beginning to think of having a walk out.

At home, Oswald and Kate are in the kitchen, talking about Drew, and Oswald's cast. He removed the cast due to the itching, but his arm and leg don't appear to be healing right. Mimi and Mr. Wick come in to see Drew, who is lying on the couch, while Lewis is talking to him. After seeing Drew's skinny body, Mr. Wick decides to give them the sky walk. They pull off the covers, and show it's Bob, Drew's pizza delivery guy.

The show ends with the Winfred Louder employees singing "Working in a Coal Mine" by Lee Dorsey while they wait to cross the street.

Another very good episode. I enjoyed seeing Drew fight for his co-workers, especially when it comes to their safety. The scene where Fenn and Geller are in the hospital was hilarious; Kate was pretty freaked out by all of the tricks those two were doing.moreless
