We'll Remember Always, Evaluation Day
AIRED:
Drew and Lisa begin arguing on a regular basis. She gets jealous when he turns down a date with her so that he can go clothes shopping with Kate. The Winfred-Louder staff sucks up to Drew as he completes the annual performance evaluations. Mimi gets a hold of some of the evaluations, and is surprised that he made some critical remarks about Lisa. He tries to hide this from Lisa, but she discovers the truth and becomes furious. She feels that Drew was tougher on her so that people wouldn't accuse him of favoritism. He insists that he was honest about her performance, and says that he was just doing his job. Lisa feels that Drew always puts his job ahead of their relationship. Drew puts together a series of pranks to get revenge on Mimi for showing Lisa her evaluation. Lisa says that her supervisor allowed her to see the evaluation; Mimi had nothing to do with it. She pressures Drew to prove that she is important to him by blowing off work for the rest of the day. Mimi shows up with a cast on her foot and announces that her sister is in the hospital. Drew tries to disable all of the pranks, and feels so guilty that he agrees to work for Mimi for the rest of the day. Mimi admits that she scammed him, as her sister was just undergoing liposuction. Lisa decides to break up with Drew after he leaves her in the car all day. Drew asks Lisa to move in with him in a desperate attempt to save the relationship.moreless

  • The season two opener!

    9.0
Instead of starting off with a part of the show, it starts off with the full version of the Five O'Clock World production, which would be used, in part, in the beginning of future episode openings.

When Drew comes into work, he and Mimi show off all of the pranks they have played on one another. There were several hilarious little pranks they pulled on one another, including gluing Mimi's feet to the floor tiles.

Kate comes over to see Drew and compliments him, since it's employee evaluation day. Mimi comes over and grabs the employee evaluations, and finds that his evaluation of Lisa is surprisingly critical. Lisa comes by and talks to Drew about some things. She gets a little curious when he tells her that Drew is going clothes shopping with Kate, as she gives him advice on what to buy. After she leaves, Drew walks over to the coffee maker when Larry walks by and offers him muffins. Mimi announces that management has the evaluations, so there's no need to suck up to Drew anymore. Larry quickly tries to take back the the muffins, but gets into a tug of war with Drew over them.

At home, Drew doesn't want to come down and show off his new pants, as there's a problem. He says they wrinkle weird. When he's asked by his friends to sit down, the front of his pants tent up, like he's got an erection. Lisa comes by with the results of the evaluation. She's gets even more upset when Drew sits down and sees what Drew likes most about her. Kate, Jay, Lewis, and Oswald come in to see how things went. Drew figures that Mimi was responsible for Lisa getting her evaluation early.

At work, Drew is working with Chuck to set up Mimi with more pranks. Oswald stops by with Drew's gifts for Lisa, as she's not accepting his gifts. Lisa then stops by, so Drew apologizes for how he judged her for the evaluation. Drew finds out that Mimi didn't give Lisa her evaluation, so he has to stop the prank, but Mimi comes right in. Drew does his best from Mimi getting injured by any of the pranks he's set up, but he wasn't able to stop the insult man or keep the troll dolls from exploding.

At home, Lewis, Oswald, Kate, and Jay join Drew to talk about Lisa. He's a little concerned that she might leave him. There's then a knock at the back door. Lisa drops off all of Drew's things that he left at her place. Drew suggests that they move in together, and not break up. She loves the idea, so they run up to the bedroom.

The show ends with Drew being lowered, Mission: Impossible-style over Mimi's desk. He's checking for lasers when Mimi comes out of Mr. Bell's office with bolt cutters in her hands, threatening to cut the cord he's hanging from, so Drew asks Lewis to pull him up.

For a season opener, I enjoyed it quite a bit. I was pleased to see the full version of the Five O'Clock World production. You can tell they had fun with that, and I enjoyed watching it. This episode was chock-full of pranks for Drew and Mimi to pull on one another.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • The opening scene with Drew and Mimi's pranks, with his cubicle's definition, Mimi's hair, and the other trivia noted on this page, may imply that the scene was taped during season one.

    • Who would Drew tell that Mimi was late the day before? She admits to pulling a prank on him as revenge for telling the boss.

    • Mr. Bell was fired in the last episode so why is it his voice asking Drew where the evaluations are?

  • QUOTES (2)

    • Lisa: How can you call me immature? I wasn't the one in the bathtub yelling "Hey look! It's a jacuzzi!"

    • Lewis: How'd she get a hold of her evaluation anyway?
Drew: There's only one person diabolical enough to have done this.
      Everybody: Mimi...
Jay: Kate. (Kate turns around.) I...Whooo---do you think it'd be, Kate?

  • NOTES (1)

    • This episode features the premiere of the production number "Five O'Clock World." The song was recorded by The Vogues in 1965 and can be found on the album Cleveland Rocks! Music from the Drew Carey Show. The video was re-edited to become the title sequence for most of the second season.

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    • At the end of the episode, there was a short scene where Drew repelled from the ceiling, hanging horizontal to the floor, over Mimi's desk. This scene was reminiscent of a scene in "Mission: Impossible," starring Tom Cruise. The film debuted only a few months before this episode aired.
