This version of "Heaven Can Wait" had previously been made into a 1943 comedy film which told the story of a man who has to prove he belongs in Hell by recounting the story of his life. It starred Gene Tierney and Don Ameche.
Although it has the same name, this particular play has no relation to the films "Heaven Can Wait" (1978, starring Warren Beatty) or "Here Comes Mr Jordan" (1941, starring Robert Montgomery). Those two films are based upon a different story of a man who is prematurely sent to heaven and is allowed a second chance at life.
