      • According to Bill Griggs "Buddy Holly Day - By - Day" series, on the night of this show Buddy Holly, The Crickets and Norman Petty stayed at the Edison Hotel in New York City. Norman was in room 1933 while the Crickets had their own room which cost $19.50 plus 98 cents tax!

      • Norman Petty attended this show.

      • During the rehearsal of this show Ed Sullivan objected to Buddy Holly performing "Oh, Boy!" because Ed felt the song was too "raunchy".
Buddy told Ed it was this song or nothing.
Ed cut Buddy from two songs to one, put him at the end of the show, gave him poor lighting and low sound.
During the introduction of the show Ed says Buddy Holly and The Crickets correctly but when introducing the group before the songs he says angrily:
"And now Oh Boy with Buddy Holled and his Crickets!"
At the beginning of the song you can see Buddy twice trying to turn up the volume of his guitar. You can tell he is singing as loud as he can. He is quite angry and you can see him kick away his guitar cord during the break.
Buddy and Jerry Allison (drummer) double time the break and Buddy adds a verse during the second part of the song. Ed's face at the conclusion of the song is priceless. He doesn't even give his star attraction an outro. He just goes right into the next act.
