      • The routine performed by comedian Dick Shawn was requested by Ed Sullivan at that instant. Dick was planning another routine but Ed asked him in front of the audience to change his routine. He went on to say that in light of the civil war films playing at that time, including Love Me Tender, would Dick re perform the routine he did that just broke up the crowd over one year ago on the show. Shawn obliged and the audience loved it.
