(talking about the smallpox vaccine)
Rachel: So this will protect me then?
Ian: Well, it worked for the boy. When [Edward] Jenner subsequently injected him with smallpox, he was entirely unaffected!
Rachel: I didn't actually ask about the boy, Hood.
Ian: I know what's driving you, Ned. Believe me, I do know. You want to keep your family safe; you want to get them away from danger. … Ned, you are the danger.
Rachel: Anything on the doctor?
Ian: Not unless it was a biblical plague sent from on high. He's a doctor of divinity.
Rachel: God help us then.
Ian: Please don't invoke God, Rachel. It's science we're talking about, and it's far too serious to bring God into it.
Ian: Treatment is voluntary. The quarantine is voluntary… and nobody's going anywhere until you bloody well volunteer.
Ian: If you are going to tell a lie, tell a big one, and tell it often.
Ian: The only thing I've seen spread faster than a virus is panic about a virus.
