Show Summary

  • Ended
The Elvira Show was a hilarious situation comedy based on the still popular character of Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. Unfortunately CBS found the comedy and innuendo too 'racy' for television and cancelled their order for a full season of The Elvira Show.''''Elvira and her Aunt Minerva (Katherine Helmond of "Soap" and "Who's The Boss" fame) have settled into small town Manhattan Kansas. Minerva spends her days channel surfing while Elvira makes a living as a palm reader. Life for the two 'closeted' witches with their talking cat Renfield is about to change as long lost niece of Elvira "Paige" (Phoebe Augustine of the band 'Cling') shows up on their doorstep.''''It jus so happens that Paige is Elvira's Niece, daughter of her late brother Elvin. Having lived in a Catholic boarding school on a remote island off the coast of main (with a bunch of nuns) Paige is a stark contrast to her aunts.''''Meanwhile the simple life of palm reading and channel surfing is about to go haywire as Elvira is charged with poisoning an innocent woman with a love spell concoction. A hunky stud police officer is sent in undercover to nail Elvira (pun intended).''''With a hilarious climactic end Elvira is saved in the nick of time by her niece who also turns out to be a witch. Unfortunately CBS burned this show at the stake before it could even cast it's spell over America. While shows like Roseanne were laden with even more suggestive comedy and innuendo CBS put The Elvira Show in it's sights and canned the show. ''''Not more than a few years later ABC came out with a very popular show using the same chemistry as The Elvira Show. "Sabrina The Teenaged Witch," featured two witchly aunts and their up and coming teenage niece. They even had a talking cat! ''''moreless

The Elvira Show is a teenager that helps her detective father solve cases, while attending highschool. For the past two years this show has had 2 big mysteries per season - each being solved by the end of the season. This is not like most shows that will string you along for years. On top of this we normally also get a "Mystery of the Week" (MOTW), that gets sloved in that same episode. Each of these MOTW are compelling in their own right.moreless

  • You have had to live In Los Angeles and grew up watching Elvira to understand how awful this show really was.

There is quite a few of us out there who can remember growing in the city of Angels (Los Angeles) and watching Elvira on Saturday nights on KHJ (today KCAL) Channel 9. Elkvira would feature some of the most god awful horror flicks. Calling these turkeys B-Movies would be giving them more credit they actually deserve.
After posing for Playboy, Elvira was no longer a local celeberity and CBS tried to capitalize on that by trying to cast her in her own comedy show. The show was not funny and poorly written. The few times I watched the show I wondered if CBS hired the same lame joke writers who wrote her stuff for her late night creep fest. CBS finally putting a silver bullet through this show prevented me from having to put a stake through my TV.moreless
