The Entertainers

Show Summary

The unusual format of The Entertainers was designed to allow each of its three stars at least one week off each month. Sometimes Carol Burnett, Bob Newhart and Caterina Valente all appeared in an episode, sometimes just two of them, and sometimes only one of the stars appeared. The cast included a group of singers, dancers and comedians who appeared regularly. In addition, one or two guest stars appeared each week. By the end of 1964 Bob Newhart and several cast members had left the show. Burnett and Valente hosted all the episodes airing in 1965. In order to keep the show as close to a live appearance as possible, episodes were taped the same day they aired.
