  • McCall must track down a vigilante who is killing punks in his name, while also helping a female student who is in danger from some thugs after an attempted car-jacking went wrong, leaving one of them dead. An excellent episode...moreless

After a couple of more so-so episodes ('The Distant Fire' and 'Mama's Boy'), things pick up again with this terrific story.

It is a tale of two stories, both of which crossover with each other.

Regarding the vigilante, who is killing thugs who escape sentence in the Equalizer's name, I actually guessed who was behind it pretty quickly – maybe I've just been watching too many of these sort of shows over the years and have got good at guessing such things!.

But beyond that, I thought it was an interesting concept, and well told.

The story of the student in danger from the thugs, after their accomplice was killed after they tried to car-jack the girl, is also very well played out. My heart did sink for a moment when Mickey (who McCall assigns to keep an eye on) got romantically involved with the girl, but thankfully it didn't mar things.

The only thing I would say is that both strands of story are so strong that they could have been spun off into their own episodes, particularly that regarding the vigilante. But that's only because they were both very strong stories and isn't really a gripe about the episode.

All-in-all, this episode probably ranks as one of the best of the first season.moreless

    • (A detective discusses the vigilante killings that are happening in McCall's name)
Sgt. Gant: I don't like what you do.
Robert: What is it you think I do?
Sgt. Gant: You are a hired gun!
Robert: If by that remark you mean that I sometimes help people in trouble, yes I do. But if you mean that I'm anything like this madman out there, then you're wrong again! Let me tell you something, Sergeant; That man is harming my reputation, so if you think you want him, I want him a damn sight more!
