Like 'The Confirmation Day' a few episodes beforehand, I found this to be a reasonable but not outstanding episode of the series.
Ralphie's father Gilbert is played by Jim Dale, a fellow Brit who appeared in many 'Carry On' films. I haven't really seen Dale in much else, especially not in serious parts, so it was quite strange to see him in such a role here.
I didn't completely buy McCall posing as a big time drugs buyer, and as it lasts for most of the story, it put the episode down a view notches in my view.
I also felt the story wasn't as well paced as many other episodes of the season, and the plot device of how McCall brings Ralphie and his father suddenly back together was slightly questionable.
Although the youth running drugs is skilled in martial arts, the story for the most part is very talky and quite low on real action; I did feel maybe more could have been done with the martial arts theme.
Although in some cases it can detract from the main plot, I actually felt that this was one story that could have benefitted from some sort of b-plot.
This is far from bottom of the barrel in the series, but in my opinion this one just comes off as an average-at-best instalment.moreless
