  • More twists and some unexpected turns

Again I enjoyed the episode. I thought it was pretty well done, and still entertaining. Some things didn't make sense but that's SF right? Any the unexpected for me was when they discovered that Simon was a sleeper and tapped his phone, but decided not to reveal it. They also decided to wipe out the aliens once and for all which seemed over the top, but if they felt they could eliminate them all in one go then it made sense. I was surprised that Thomas was on one of the buses destroyed. The way the Vice president cracked when the gun was put to his head by Shaun, seemed strange given how he had stood up to the president. New storyline emerging in France, with Dempsey is interesting and leaves you guessing who he is and what he is planning to do.

I preferred the earlier style that The Event had with the simultaneous timelines and flash backs. They should have kept up with it. I do hope that we have a conclusion to the series in episode 22 as I know it was not renewed.moreless

Face off was actually i pretty good instalment of the Event which had some Big events occur in it. I was glad to martinez grow a pair this whole season all he seems to have done is talk so i was glad to see him take action for a change, I was glad that the show decided to kill off Thomas, this will hopfully make the sophia chracter take action and declare war!!! Sean and vicky were ok this week, im actually enjoying this two has a couple, there was definitly some sexual tension between them this week, Overall a good episode which has got me looking forward to next week !!!!moreless
  • Face Off

Face Off was a perfect and engaging episode of The Event. This episode was full of action with Sean and Vicki as they track down Dempsey, full of drama and intrigue as Thomas and Sophia come to terms while the President struggles to play the hand he's dealt. This episode had all the best points of the show. I thought it was interesting what Dempsey discovers in the cave and I can't wait to find out his connection to it all. I also thought it was great how the President and Sterling learn the truth about Simon. This episode definitely moves the series forward and leaves me wanting more! I thought the look on the President's face in the last scene was priceless as he realizes what he just did. I look forward to watching the next episode of The Event!!!!!!!moreless
  • At the end of this episode I felt stupid for having wasted an hour. I am done with this show.

The Event has never been particularly good television. Although the producers have abandoned the multiple timeline approach since the mid-season hiatus, it is still a confusing and unfocussed mess.

Of course, as with any science fiction, the viewer is expected to suspend disbelief; but the ideas, events and activities we are asked to believe here are simply ridiculous. Every episode involves events that are supposed to be simultaneous happening at different times of the day (and no, the three hour time difference between DC and LA does not cover it).

In particular, last week we had a radio signal from light years away travelling in a few days. It's okay to have faster than light communication in SF, but not with radio.

This week, at the episode's climax, an Apache helicopter flies ahead of several targets with the intent of destroying them. It's night, so the helicopter has its lights flashing and is so well illuminated that it can be identified from the ground. Then the chopper shoots one target, waits a while, then shoots the second, and then, oh wait, where did the third target go? You don't need to be a seasoned soldier to know that you turn the lights off and shoot rapidly.

I am tired of being treated like I am stupid. In fact, I am tired of being stupid enough to keep coming back to this sorry excuse for television programming. I'm done.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • When Sean steals the van, both back doors are open. The next shot from the front of the van, before he stops to pick up Vicky, you can see through the windshield that the doors are closed. This is also visible after he picks up Vicky and rounds the corner.

  • QUOTES (4)

    • Martinez: You have done nothing but lie since the second we've met. I'm done. Surrender.
Sophia: So you can lock us up forever. You know I can't do that.
      Martinez: You have ten minutes.
      Sophia: That's impossible, Elias.
Martinez: Ten minutes. We encounter any resistance whatsoever, I'll make you regret leaving wherever it is you came from.

    • Dr. Ellis: But you must understand. To a man such as myself, a discovery of this magnitude--I simply couldn't resist.
Dempsey: This is unfortunate. If you'd been able to exercise a little more self-control, you might have been able to live long enough to tell your children about this. (guns him down)

    • Thomas: Change is never easy, Sophia. There's always a cost.
Sophia: Leadership requires discipline, sacrifice, the ability to make people believe in the impossible. No one said anything about easy.

    • Dempsey: Every civilization, every religion has its own concept of the guardian angel. What it represents and... what its function is here on Earth. and in every civilization, every religion, they are reduced to metaphor, symbols. When in fact, they are very... very... real.
