  • Could have been much better.................

    7.0
This episode was very dissapointing. It seemed like they wasted alot of time.....it was obvious Sean was going to live...why WASTE all the screen time kidnapping the Dr etc. Then there was the horrible, "done before" way the writers had the VP NOT tell the President who the MAIN villian was... he say's "It's ....and BOOM...is he dead...I really don't care at this point. If he's alive we'll have to suffer through Dempsey trying to knock him off. The ONLY good thing about this episode was the very end when Dempsey went from "old" to Young and then back to an old man. It looks like they might have taken blood from one of the "aliens" and have been experimenting on the children that we saw at the end of last weeks show.

That's why the children were "old" In any "event" I'll keep watching. I think the show has lasting power if they stop with the wasted obvious fillers.moreless
  • Sean gets shot and the Vice President turns out to be a mole.

    7.0
Boy, this show is pretty topsy-turvy right now... there's cliffhangers that aren't answered for awhile, characters who are half-interesting/half-idiotic and the occasional moment where the show lives up to its potential. Sounds a lot like Flashforward, huh?

I don't mean to compare "The Event" and "Flashforward" with each other, but I'm starting to get that same vibe I got last year. "The Event" is a show with an interesting premise and the potential to be so much better than it is. Tonight's episode was more of a reminder of what the show is doing wrong instead of right. There was a lot of explanatory dialogue, some interesting scenes, a lot of stalling and an ending that once again introduces another crazy plot point but does nothing to really explain the ones before it. This makes me think... what were the creators thinking in saying that this show was going to be written so that we learn some stuff every episode? Maybe that worked for the first couple episodes, but ever since, it feels like the show is being dragged out forever.

But the show still does a few things right. It does the whole "24" thing and has characters who are good doing bad things for the greater good. Sean and Leila are forced to take a doctor hostage to help him fix Sean's gunshot wound. There are some pretty dramatic moments here where we think that MAYBE Leila will get caught, but this won't happen, of course. It makes the entire scene anti-climatic (especially since we know Sean's not going to die)and pointless.

I still like the White House cast, including the Vice President. It's kind of lame to have him be a bad guy in cahoots with Dempsey (Hal Holbrook), but the explanation of how they got together was begun tonight, and I still like Blake Sterling, President Martinez and the way everything is unraveling around them as they attempt to figure out what exactly is going on.

Compared to the last couple of weeks, this was somewhat of a filler episode. Vicky shows up, proves herself to be a double agent, but it's so pigeon-holed into the episode that it feels like there are a few scenes missing. Characters reappear and disappear for episodes at a time, making their reappearance sort of lackluster. You get invested in one plot and the show yanks you in the opposite direction. Right now, the show is getting all tangled up in itself, and if it's not careful, it's going to be juggling way too many things. I'm already confused at the whole Sophia/Thomas and Dempsey plot and it's hard to figure out who's working for who and what's going on.

I want to say the show can be fixed, but I think the way the show is now is the way it will always be. The best it can do is simplify things and find a way to slowly introduce us to stuff without leaving us confused at things. For instance, what's up with those old women looking girls? I liked that ending last episode, but there's absolutely no reference to it now. What's up with that?

An okay episode here, but I was sort of disappointed. The show was on somewhat of a role here, and I was looking forward to seeing it continue, but all good things must come to an end at some point I suppose...moreless
  • For the Good of Our Country

    8.5
For the Good of Our Country was a great episode of the Event. I really enjoyed watching this episode which was filled with suspense, action, and intrigue. This episode moves the season along and has some good revelations though we don't see any of the detainee's or their free cohorts. I like this series because it touches upon a question of "What would you do if the authorities were after you for no apparent reason?" which is kind of scary to think about being in Sean's situation. This episode was ver entertaining and I can't wait to see what happens next!!!!!moreless
