      • Natalie: Nobody writes songs about the American Revolution anymore. Yankee Doodle said it all.

      • Natalie: Poetry is really where my head is at.
Mrs. Garrett: But Spanish is really where your B is at.

      • (As Alex comes in)
Alex: Excuse me. I'm looking for Mrs. Garrett.
Blair: Uh. Deliveries are made through the kitchen.
Alex: You have to be Blair!
Jo: She sure does. Nobody else wants to be.
Alex: Jo, right! And that leaves Natalie. (Nodding at her)
Natalie: Who are you, the Great Carnac?
Alex: And this must be Tootie, the Rona Barrett of Eastland.
Tootie: I pick up a lot more dirt than she does.

      • Jo: Blair, cool it! You're out of line.
Blair: Mrs. Garrett says we can discuss anything with her, and we don't have to be embarrassed or afraid.
Jo: She was talking about sex.

      • Mrs. Garrett: How's it coming Natalie?
Natalie: My studying has ground to a halt but my nervous breakdown is progressing nicely, thank you.

    • ALLUSIONS (2)

      • Alex: That leaves Natalie...
Natalie: Who are you, the Great Carnac?
Alex: And this must be Tootie, the Rona Barrett of Eastland.

      • Natalie: I want to write the songs that make the whole world sing.
        Alex: Barry!

They are referring to the Barry Manilow song "I Write the Songs."
