  • The series started off by being bold and covering topics that other shows didn't like to cover very much. This one covers a standard topic but in a very realistic and emotional way.moreless

It's a simple premise. Friends go out for lunch and run into someone they know having an affair. It happens all the time. But not that often to a teenager who finds her own father cheating on her mother.

This episode was a great example of how the show tackled common issues facing kids in the 80s (and today).

Natalie's discovery of her father's beytrayal is very realistic and you feel the pain in her heart from the first glimpse (and realization). Her tug-of-war over whether to confront her father feels real and the arrival of her father at the school makes you sit on the edge of your seat. You wonder what she'll say.

Then you feel the pain when her father finally realizes that she knows the truth and she's got him. His little girl just grew up.

It's sad to see how deep this betrayal has cut into Natalie's heart. Its as if her soul was ripped out. Everything she believed and trusted in is now gone.

The hanging moment, at the end, with Natalie's father waiting for a hug is a great way to end a very well done episode.moreless

    • Tootie: Two people together can overcome anything, whatever life hands them. All it takes is love.
Blair: You've been reading the back of that Barry Manilow album again.

    • (About divorce)
Blair: It's better in some ways, isn't it?
      (Jo looks confused)
      Natalie: What ways?
Blair: Well you don't have to lie in bed, listening for the argument you know is going to start. And you don't have to be the peacemaker once its started. And you don't have to worry about the worst happening... because its already happened.

    • (About divorce)
Jo: It's not that bad, Nat. It's just... different. Ya know, like when you change apartments or schools. It's a little rough at first, but you get used to it.

    • Natalie: Wait til Mr. Perfect finds out you've been cheating on him.
      Blair: I'm not cheating on-
Natalie: What would you call it?! You're disgusting Blair, no better than that tramp in the restaurant!
      Mrs. Garrett: Natalie-
Natalie: You're cheap and sleazy and disgusting! I wonder how many marriages you're gonna break up when you get older!

    • Tootie: What's a "tryst"?
Mrs. Garrett: Oh, a tryst is a rendezvous, an assignation...
      Tootie: You mean an affair.
Mrs. Garrett: That's another good word.

    • Blair: This place is famous for its discrete encounters. You know who used to come here? Dick and Liz. Eddie and Liz. Everybody and Liz.
