  • A new set and the New Girl

    7.3
This is the first episode of the second season and necessary changes have been made to the cast and Eastland School setting. New girl Jo Polniachzek (played by Nancy McKeon) comes to Eastland. She's to be roommates with Blair. The second season opener works quite well especially the bantering between Jo and Blair. Nancy McKeon's timing and tone make for some great comedic moments. Gary Coleman as a guest star also adds some fabulous funny moments to the season premiere. The show works much better with the cast noticeably cut down, and only four teenage girls' personalities to keep track of. It also continues with it's relevant subject matter (to teenagers and that era) as Blair and Jo challenge one another in a picking up men contest. The competition results in the girls hot-wiring a van, using fake ID's, drinking underage and lying. Even though it's the first episode with only the four girls you get the sense that they are already comfortable with each other and it results in great, clever (for it's time) dialogue. The show can only keep getting better from here.moreless

    • Officer Barry Shuler: Harmless highschool girls. Ha. (Grabbing Jo and Blair) I gotta take these two in before they do anymore damage. Come on.
Mrs. Garrett: Oh, no, wait a minute. You can't do that. It's entrapment.
Natalie: (Shoving Office Shuler) Leave my friends alone!
Tootie: Yeah, creep. (Tootie picks up a pitcher of beer and pours it over Officer Shuler's head)

    • Tootie: Yeah, we'll be ready.
Blair: We? Would you like to explain that?

Tootie: Wow, what an honor. Running a whole barfateria.

    • Tootie: I don't believe what I see, Blair Warner with only one suitcase.
Blair: What do you mean? This is just for my makeup. My wardrobe is coming later in a truck.

    • (to the bartender)
      Jo: Two brews.
Blair: One brew. I'll have a beer.

    • Blair: My Jordaches are your Jordaches.

    • Joe: (entering the cafeteria) Uhhh, is this where I'm supposed to be?
Blair: Oh, delivery boys usually use the rear entrance.
Jo: Delivery boy? Gimme a break!
(Jo takes off her helmet, revealing her to be a girl) Is this where I'm suppose to check in?
      Blair: I don't believe this!
Natalie: You don't? I was gonna ask him to the fall dance.

    • (after hearing a car crash outside the Chug-a-lug)
Mrs Garrett: By the way girls, where IS the van?

    • Mrs. Garret: Natalie, would you show Jo a better place to park her bike
Jo: Why don't I just park it on Blair's face?
Natalie: She's a breath of fresh air isn't she.
