I don't know if he could actually be called a bachelor, since he was a widower, with a lovely daughter (who mysteriously disappeared after Season One, ala Chuck Cunningham). He is assigned to protect a wealthy woman (played by a lovely young Dina Farrell) from a serial killer (played by Jeffery Hunter, who just a few years earlier played Jesus Christ in the classic film "King Of Kings"). There is a hint of romance between them, but nothing will come of it, and we learn why: Erskine's wife had been killed by a bullet meant for him, and he doesn't want to expose any other woman to that danger. As Farrell put it at the end, his wife wasn't the only one who died. At any rate, he would go on to become a no-nonsense G-Man, like LAPD's Joe Friday on "Dragnet".
At this writing I'm still waiting for a DVD release. "The FBI" lasted nine seasons, and was arguably the most successful of the Quinn Martin series, so there must be some demand for it.moreless
