    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    FILTER BY TYPE

    • TRIVIA (3)

      • One of Barry's past blind dates had a fear of spiders, hats, fish, suitcases, and anything with fur. The closest technical names for those fears are: arachnophobia, cocklaphobia, ichthyophobia, rotathecaphobia and doraphobia.

      • When Barry is talking with Mrs. Grosso and Julio is going through the items in the shop looking for a gift the silver statue Julio finds is the robot from the 1927 silent film Metropolis, the same robot that inspired George Lucas's vision of C3PO.

      • During Megan's research of news sightings of The Flash, one mentions the pool hall explosion that occurred in the later aired "Honor Among Thieves " (that episode was actually the first episode produced after the pilot).

    • QUOTES (3)

      • Julio: Okay, Sabrina's got this girlfriend. She's young, she's hip, she's single, she's perfect for you.
Barry: Yeah, like the last perfect one, the one with the phobias.
Julio: So she was afraid of spiders, big deal.
Barry: Yeah, along with hats, fish, suitcases, and anything with fur.

      • Barry: Judith, huh? What did you tell her about me?
Julio: That you're 4'8" with a mug like a scouring pad. What do you think, man? Just trust me. I'm a living proof of what love can do.
Barry: Yeah, but inhaling lab fumes does the same thing.

      • Barry: I wear a mask to protect the people I know and love who might get hurt for what I do.
Megan: You're a cop. You know wearing masks are illegal.
Barry: Oh, right. But what would you do? Run through the street stark naked at 350 miles an hour with bells on your toes?

    • NOTES (3)

    • ALLUSIONS (5)

      • Barry: Maybe if I'd been the reincarnation of Joan of Arc. Or Flipper.
Joan of Arc was born in the early 1400's in the Kingdom of France. Based on her faith and belief in divine guidance, she rose from her peasant status to that of a military commander and heroine of France. Eventually captured by the English, she was executed for the crime of heresy in 1431.

      • Barry: Maybe if I'd been the reincarnation of Joan of Arc. Or Flipper.
Flipper was the dolphin star of the 1963 movie Flipper. The movie was followed by live-action TV shows in 1964 and 1995, an animated Australian series, and a movie remake in 1996.

      • Barry: TV Magic Cards when I was a kid.
The TV Magic Cards were the trademarked name for the self-working Svengali deck. Marshall Brodien created and marked the TV Magic Cards in the late 1960s, although the Svengali deck itself dates back to the turn of the century. Variants of the TV Magic Cards have appeared in numerous kid's magic kits since then.

      • Carter Hall
During her first scene in the episode Dr. McGee mentions a Dr. Carter Hall. That's the secret identity of "Hawkman," another DC Comics character.

      • Watching The Detectives
The title of this episode is an allusion to the 1977 song of the same name by Elvis Costello.
