  • Since Fred hasn't paid his lodge dues, he's not eligible to be awarded the trophy he won in the golf championship.

"The Golf Champion" was recorded June 29, 1960, and originally aired Dec. 9, 1960.

These are my comments and questions about the episode:

    1. The 1960 theme and opening credits are played.

    2. Some time between the episode "No Help Wanted" (which aired Oct. 21, 1960) and this episode, Barney learned to play golf.

    3. Fred and Barney aren't yet in the Loyal Order of Water Buffaloes. They are still in the Loyal Order of Dinosaurs. Barney is currently president. Fred has been president three times.

    4. Barney gets a dog named Buzzsaw. Buzzsaw has the same laugh as Mutley.

    5. The episode mentions New Year's Eve and Mardi Gras.

    • Betty: Will you try being friendly just for me? Go over and give Fred the cup. Then ask him in a nice way to give you the dues he owes.
Barney: Well, I'll try it, but you know Fred. It won't work.
(Betty is later sitting in a chair reading)
Betty: I just know it will work. Fred's really sentimental. When he sees the cup, he'll soften up. And when Barney goes into that "Close friend, bosom buddy, lifelong pal," Fred will break down and cry. In fact, Barney will break down and cry, too, if I know him. Oh, they're a couple of sentimental guys. They really love each other. (hears the door open) Is that you, Barney?
(Barney enters with the cup over him)
Barney: I told you it wouldn't work.

    • (After Barney's failed attempt to get Fred to give him the dues)
Fred: The nerve of that little molecule. Knocks on my door and says, "Give me the dues, you cheapskate, or you don't get the cup." (laughs) He got the cup, all right.

    • (Fred and Barney, golf bags over their shoulders, start fighting again as Betty and Wilma watch from a window...)
Fred:..and after I beat you at golf, I'll give you a bowling lesson!
      Barney: Oh, yeah?
Fred: YEAH! And then I'll beat you at pool!
      Barney: Oh, is that so?
      Fred: Yeah, that's so!
Wilma: Oh, listen to them fighting...
Betty: Yeah. Thank goodness they're friends again!

    • Sung: What's the matter with Flintstone? He's all right.
