Episode Summary

EDIT
With a burglar on the loose in Bedrock, Betty decides to take judo lessons to protect herself. When Wilma wants to take lesson also, Fred ridicules the idea, arguing that one glimpse of a burglar would send her running in fear. To prove his point, Fred poses as the burglar and sneaks into the Rubble household, on the same night the real criminal shows up.moreless

  • Betty takes up judo lessons to protect herself from a burglar making the rounds in the neighborhood. She teaches Wilma the moves she has learned.

"The Prowler" was recorded on April 5, 1960, and originally aired on Dec. 30, 1960.

These are my comments and questions.

    1. The 1960 theme and opening credits are used.

    2. Professor Rockimoto, the judo instructor, is one of the few ethnic characters shown in the original series. Later incarnations of "The Flintstones" would have a number of ethnic characters.

    3. As Fred drives in his car, you hear part of an instrumental version of the regular Flintstones theme song.

    4. Fred is very sexist toward Wilma in this episode. It's one of the episodes where you want to kick him in the head.

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • There's a short scene in the middle of the episode (Barney trying to help Fred break into his own house disguised as the Prowler) in which Barney speaks in his 'later' Mel Blanc voice- as opposed to his 'nasal' Mel Blanc voice of the first half of the first season. This was supposedly due to the producers having to work around Blanc's hospitalization after a near-fatal car accident- which also explains why five episodes over the cusp of the first and second seasons feature Daws Butler as the voice of Barney.
