The Flying Doctors

Show Summary

'Victor Charlie Charlie' to 'Mike Sierra Foxtrot' Do you read me? This is the familiar radio call for the The Flying Doctors, the internationally successful Australian drama that ran for six years between 1986 to 1992. Set in the fictional town of Coopers Crossing, it deals with the highs and lows of the daily lives of the town's folk.

The six season run saw a succession of faces join and leave the Crossing but the show never waned in its popularity. This small band of doctors and nurses responded to around the clock calls from isolated stations and townships across the great Australian outback treating everything from snake bites to heat stroke, childbirth to brain surgery and often in near possible conditions.

  • If you love MASH you will love the flying doctors

    9.0
I watched this, when it was originally on tv all those years ago. Ive just bought it as a 2014 December birthday & Xmas present to myself - the full TV series and bonus mini series from 'Crawfords Australian site' - and am I glad I did!! (you can buy a different dvd set of this) We're just loving this show, MASH will always be my favourite TV show, but, the flying doctors is up there too, the characters are pure perfection, the main actors too, you'll fall in love with them all. the Australian outback - WOW, you will want to learn more about it, let alone, try and get out there sometime. beautiful, haunting, great stories, not too much blood and gore, swearing etc, just good solid storylines, that resonate even today -more 'innocent TV' which, when you watch this, wish back for those times - no matter where you live or who you are, you are guaranteed of enjoyable viewing - pure family viewing.

Even though the show is quite old, it still is a pleasure to watch. The story is good to follow and the actors and script is perfect! Who wouldn't want to live in Coopers Crossing? The show still has fan clubs in Holland and Germany. Hope this show is repeated some time...

  • If you want to laugh, cry and enjoy the scenery of the real outback Australia, then this is the show for you.

    9.7
I am so glad that repeats of this series are being aired again here in Australia. I grew up watching this show. I had my first crush (I was 7 when Sam Patterson first hit the screens) and wanted to be a mechanic like Emma. This was a show that had an influence on a lot of people. It wasn't afraid to tackle tough issues like HIV and teenage pregnancy (both rather taboo still in the eighties). The characters were loveable, but also fallible. If you want to laugh, cry and enjoy the scenery of the real outback Australia, then this is the show for you. If they would only release it on DVD, so we could enjoy it as much as we wanted.moreless
